My birthday's in August and I'm turning 14, and for my party this year I really want to have a Harry Potter party. I've spoken to my friends about it and only a few of them are keen on dressing up, but I was thinking of maybe having a minimum one piece costume, eg. glasses, scar, wand, wig that sums up a character.
So far I have these ideas:
-Watching the last 30 minutes of the Deathly Hallows Part 1 as people arrive
-Watching Part 2 at the cinemas
-Harry Potter Scene It
For food, I am thinking about having chocolate frogs, jelly beans, and four jars each one filled with either red, yellow, green or blue MnM's to resemble House Points.
I'm not sure what else to do though, and what sort of decorations to have, because as I said not all of my friends want to go all out with costumes and will probably think that playing Quidditch etc. is too childish.
Anyway ideas welcome :)What are some things to do at a teenage Harry Potter party?
Food / Drink:
You could get like Orange juice or fanta and label it in a bottle called pumpkin juice. Chocolate frogs is an awesome idea. You could get a huge bowl of jelly beans (you can get lots of random flavours from local stores) and label it Bertie Botts. You could get jelly slugs (Ron spell backfired). Also you could make some HP cupcakes with the house colours on them.
Invitations:
You could write letters on your computer using the Hogwarts letter head and font. You could write as if you were hogwarts, inviting them to your party and explaining what you'll be doing. Then you could get brown envelopes and get the Hogwarts stamp on the back. (You could buy stickers on eBay or print out the logo nd stick it on).
House:
This could cause some arguments if you just give them to people. Sorting hat could be cool but I don't know whether it would be too childish. (My friends are all 16 and in our free period in school we went to play off ground tic in the park hehe). Anyway, you could get a hat and put in pieces of cards with the houses on it and they could come and pick out the hat. Kinda sorting hat. Random but if you have a badge it maker you could make badges of the houses, or just make your own with card and saftey pins.
Activities:
Will your friends be staying late / sleeping? You could find some scary stories on the internet and just change some of the names to random medieval witch and wizards. Have a scary story time in the dark. You could have Harry Potter quizes, test each other knowledge. Do you have cluedo? You could make your own cards before hand using hogwarts characters rather than the traditional cluedo characters. Insted of the weapons you could have wands, tom riddle book, dragons etc...
Decoration:
Hogwarts bunting and house colours dexoratios around the house. You could get plastic toads, they sing with them in the film (my mums idea). Get some balloons colour of the houses.
Anyways have a super Harry Potter party!
I just thought of something else, might aswell tell you while I have proper internet acess at the library. Is the a teache that you and your friends particularly do not like? If there is - and you have the time to make this - you should get the newspaper picture of Serius Black when he has the wanted sign thing and then put your teacher in it, print it off in big and stick it on your wall. Could be pretty cool.
Another random thing I just though probably wont work. But if you had a human sized chess board you couldve let people at your party be certain pieces and you could get foam swords of such and when you take someone you could actually attack someone! Probably wont work but just an idea...
Enjoy! :)What are some things to do at a teenage Harry Potter party?
Harry Potter "Celebrity Head"
Either get some cheap head bands and attach the names of characters on them so the person can't see or stick paper on their back, Remember to remove all mirrors and reflective services. People can only ask yes or no answers to get an answer eg do I have red hair or am I a girl... The first person to guess their character wins. What are some things to do at a teenage Harry Potter party?
I had a Harry potter party. But it went horribly wrong. People just start having sex randomly with anyone.
I like the house points idea, just make sure you guests don't eat them all.
I've answered loads of questions like this so I'll just c%26amp;p the answer here
Activites :
There are loads of board games and video games available. You could get the 'Harry Potter: Scene it?' of which there are two editions available. There is also a Harry Potter version of Cluedo/Clue. An idea is, depending how many people that are attending, you could give everyone their own houses (out of the four at Hogwarts, obviously) and people can earn the 'points' by winning games.
You could do quizzes, watch the old films, and maybe do like one of those creatuve writing games where you go round the group and every one says a few lines of a story and make it as crazy and mad as you can.
Decoration :
There are plenty of plates, cups, napkins and etc. available but I'm guessing they'll be a bit childish as they're aimed at kids. You could make a smoking cauldron as a sort of centrepiece with a nice effect using dry ice (http://chemistry.about.com/cs/howtos/ht/… ). You can also get a Hogwarts banner for about $13 (I don't know where you live - sorry. I'm from the UK) at Amazon and I'm pretty sure you can find it cheaper using Google Shopping or whatever. You could also decorate with streamers in the house colours (red and gold, blue and bronze etc)
Drinks :
There are LOADS of butterbeer recipes, but they almost all have butterscotch of some sort. Here's a list of the ten best: http://bit.ly/8eXKb
Food :
Pumpkin Pasties: Most of the recipes on the net are sweet (http://bit.ly/amTQL) but coincidently, a few days ago I was looking for savoury ones and found these: http://bit.ly/eit0AO . Most of the others online are just the first recipe but reposted elsewhere.
Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans: You could just get loads of Jelly Beans. If you're in a country where Jelly Belly distributes - for example, the UK or the US, theres a list in the drop down at http://www.jellybelly.com - you could get their Beanboozled variety, which have various beans, and each has a matching one with the same colour but with a disgusting flavour (for example Peach and Vomit, Choco Pudding and Dog Food, Pear and Bogie...well you get the idea). Jelly Belly used to make Bertie Botts Every Flavour Bean but apparently don't do so anymore. If you search it on their website it comes in the suggestions but not in the results. Most other places, it is out of stock.
Cockroach Clusters: From what I've read, 'in real life' (I'm presuming at The Wizarding World of HP) they are candies/sweets in the shape of a cockroach. I'd have thought you could put crushed cornflakes and/or nuts in melted chocolate then roll them into clusters but some people use dry noodles. (http://bit.ly/eyJb6D)
Chocolate Frogs: You could get gummi/jelly frogs and coat them in melted chocolate and let them set. Or just get frog shaped chocolate (like Cadbury's Freddo).
You could also make Treacle Tart, which is Harry's fave. Here's a Howcast video on how to make it. They say 'Harry Potter Treacle Tart' as if it was first invented in Harry Potter or something http://howc.st/erTqFn
If you're a Starkid (Fan of A very Potter Musical/Sequel) than there's only one thing for it - REDVINES! What can't they do?
Favours:
I dunno what your price range is but here's some nice HP jewellry
http://www.etsy.com/shop/trophies
http://www.etsy.com/shop/FanaticAlley
http://www.etsy.com/shop/AzureeAlice/sea…
You could also give out sort of Divination cards with either fortune cookie style predictions or what they'd love to happen e.g, they becom famous or whatever, give out glasses and/or scar temporary tattoos etc
