Your wand is your protection. Without your wand you're useless. No one wanted to give up their wand because they have had it ever since they were like 11 and its become their friend. Would you give up your gun voluntirally even to a murderer?

I think because then the person could not use any spells. Plus I think it was humiliating to have to give up your wand.
Because they want to keep their own wand. It's theirs :)
